Caspary Lab Research Description
We ask directly which genes are important for development of the mammalian nervous system by performing chemical mutagenesis screens in the mouse. We have around 17 mutant lines with defects in neural development, and we are using deep resequencing to find the causal mutation in each. We focus on novel proteins, and we combine molecular, cellular, and genetic approaches to define the molecular mechanisms governing cell fate decisions. Through this work, several projects in the lab focus on the role of cilia proteins in vertebrate Hedgehog signaling.
