Genetics Training for Students
Our researchers and clinicians have a strong presence in formal student training through the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and the Schools of Medicine and Nursing at Emory University.
Down syndrome and chromosomal trisomy are highlighted in the Human Genetics course that is taught to all first-year medical students. This section of the course touches on basic chromosomal behavior and the mechanisms that lead to trisomy, using Down syndrome as a model.
Future physicians have the privilege of meeting a family touched by Down syndrome and hearing their stories.
Our goal is to show that all fields of medicine, not simply pediatricians, care for individuals with Down syndrome.
